The term invasive species refers to any non-native plant or animal that, due to a lack of predators and other natural limiting agents, thrives to the detriment of the local ecology. Invasive species can drastically alter ecological relationships among native species and can affect ecosystem function, home and business value, and human health.
Drastic measures need to be taken if We are to keep more of these foreign bastards out of Our Lake. That means tighter restrictions at access points, stiffer penalties for offenders, and finally…I’m not afraid to say it, User Fee’s at every single public water access on Lake Minnetonka. Public resource…sure, I know, but it won’t be much of a resource if we give free access to every fish, weed, and nasty microscopic organism.
We need to think about Our future in realistic terms and do what needs to be done in order to protect Our Lake.
TonkaBlue is a lake-centered organization and clothing brand that has sprouted from our love of Lake Minnetonka. Besides being the first and only lakewear brand, we strive to advocate for the health of our community and environment. TonkaBlue does this by creating informational and educational materials to increase awareness of pressing environmental issues affecting Lake Minnetonka and give people the information to make conscientious decisions.
